Zero in Julian

Day 8, 3/24/20, mile: 77

So today was about resting and doing chores, mostly laundry. The weather was variable, cool and partly cloudy, so you could warm and cozy in the sun or cold when in the shade and breeze. Calzone and Disco had to move to the Julian Lodge, so we hung out outside sharing stories and beers waiting for their check-in time. I went to the store to buy food for the day, and then had a wonderful talk with the proprietor of the Julian Inn.

Anthony and his wife have owned this Inn for a couple of years and we had a great talk, he educating me on the business side of the hospitality industry. I feel good about supporting a Mom and Pop shop like this (though I’m pretty sure they aren’t parents). I did not ask nor recieve a discount, but he did donate a half-roll of TP!

I had dinner with the guys in their room at the Lodge. We ordered food delivered from Romano’s. Surprisingly, Calzone ordered a pizza and salad. I was the only one eating a calzone, and damn was it tasty. The walk “home” was surreal.

I got word that Miranda and Ola arrived in Julian, which made me so happy to hear they’re still on trail. I hope to see them before I hit the road midday after more shopping and retrieving new shoes from the Post Office.
